DC’S New 52- Stormwatch #1

STormwatch #1, written by Paul Cornell(Yep, the same guy who is writing Demon Knights, which I have already reviewed), is yet another reboot for this Wildstorm/Image comics original. While it’s nice to see DC put such faith in Wildstorm’s characters, I was thoroughly unimpressed with this debut issue. the biggest problem I have with this first issue was that the characters were not introduced in a proper manner. Paul Cornell seems to be DC’s new king of “thrusting you into the action with little or no explanation as to what is going on”. Now I admit to not knowing much about Stormwatch, The Authority or their world, but isn’t that what this reboot is for? Isn’t this reboot supposed to introduce us to the characters, to give us a back story or an origin so that we might learn who they are, what drives them?
What drives them? Guns…lot’s of guns.
I did enjoy the idea and introduction of Martian Manhunter and I thought the entrance of the Midnighter was pretty badass, but overall this book came out like an over baked muffin. A little rough around the edges with little flavor inside.

I do not recommend people to purchase this book unless they know the Stormatch world quite well…otherwise, lost you may be.
